how to spend a weekend in joshua tree - where to stay, what to do, and where to eat

As a fairly new resident of Southern California, Joshua Tree has been on my “must visit” list for a while now. Just under 3 hours from San Diego and Los Angeles, Joshua Tree is known for its diverse landscape, serene vibe and of course, its National Park. If you are local to SoCal or even looking for destinations to visit out west, this is for you!

Day 1: Pioneer Town, Crochet Museum, Checking into Saguaro Ridge

MORNING

We left San Diego around 10 AM and of course got some Starbies on the way before arriving in the desert at 12:30.

AFTERNOON

Our first stop was Pioneertown. This is the cutest little western inspired strip with a Town Jail, Saddlery, and tons of eclectic shops filled with artisan goods. A number of western films were shot in Pioneertown and you can’t help but feel like you’ve taken a step on set when visiting. We ate lunch at The Red Dog and it was delicious. Get the mushroom taco and chips + queso!

Next, we visited Joshua Tree Coffee and The Crochet Museum. Personally, I would recommend skipping the coffee but the Museum was so cool. It was a tiny building but everything inside was crocheted! After a bit of exploring, we headed to Walmart to stock up on groceries and then to our home for the next few days.

EVENING

We arrived at our home in Yucca Valley and are so grateful to FieldTrip for hosting us at the Saguaro Ridge Home. It accommodates 12 guests with 6 rooms, 4 bathrooms and is curated to perfection. We all work remotely and this was an amazing space for that as well. It also includes a game room, yoga deck overlooking the mountains, a cowboy tub and a hot tub, needless to say we were very entertained.

We ended the day with dinner at Tiny Pony and I would rate the meal a 5.5/10. It was decent but the entrees don’t come with a side so I don’t think it was worth the cost.

DAY 2: Exploring Downtown Joshua Tree, Family Dinner at Home, New Year Vision Boarding

MORNING

We started the day off with an at home yoga class. Ask for Salila! She was great and affordable. After class we got some work done which was so perfect, this place was made for people who have to work on the go!

AFTERNOON

Joshua Tree has so many cute and artsy shops. We stoped into a good bit of them but my favorite was the Wine and Rock shop. It had a great selection of natural wines and they helped me pick the perfect ones for a novice wine drinker like myself. We also stopped by the Transmission Sculpture which was breath taking. It is on private property so to get up close, you do have to rent the property but there is a view point that has a pretty good view.

EVENING

We returned home and got ready for some photos and dinner at home along with our vision boarding moment. It was such a wholesome day and I am so grateful to have such amazing friends. <3

DAY 3: Sunrise in the Desert, Heading Back to San Diego

MORNING

If there’s one thing that you cannot miss during a trip in Joshua Tree, it is a sunset and sunrise in the mountains. It is so incredibly beautiful and maybe one of my favorite sunrises I’ve seen. After the sunrise, we did a polar plunge in the cowboy tub followed by a dip in the hot tub. It was the perfect way to end such a beautiful trip.

Sadly, we didn’t make it to Joshua Tree National Park but I am happy to have a reason to go back! My Joshua Tree vlog is live and you can click below to watch if you’d like. ttly <3
