a week in mexico city

I have never been the one to place a city destination at the top of my trip but after a week in Mexico City, I might just have to reconsider that. As the largest and capitol city of Mexico, Mexico City is filled with vibrant culture, cuisine, and character. If you’ve been curious about CDMX and what to know more, this one is for you.

Day 1: Arrive in MEXICO city, drive to Nido de quetzalcoatl

Aternoon

We arrived in Mexico City around noon and made our way to our airbnb in Nido de Quetzalcoatl. The airbnb listing says the drive is about 30 minutes outside of the city but it took us closer to an hour. Once we arrived, we checked in, set our stuff down, and explored the property. Another this to not is that there are ~10 other units where people live full time and rent on airbnb so you are not alone on the property! We thought it would be just us but it was not. However that did not hinder our experience in any way.

Evening

We made our way to the nearest grocery store to stock up for the next few days, make dinner, and played sleepover games like truth or dare minus the dare until it was time to go to sleep. I love being woman. 🤍

DAY 2: Tour of Nido de Quetzalcoatl

MORNING

We started our day with breakfast made at home and then walked over to the park entrance to meet our host, Patricia. I could not say more positive things about our host. She was so helpful and caring and I would stay at this property again just to catch up with her. The park is accessible to all airbnb guests and has minimal availability to the public so for the most part, the tour was just us and our host/guide. It is truly the most stunning experience. The green house and the outdoor amphitheater was my favorite!

afternoon

After the tour, we made sandwiches for lunch and took a much needed nap.

Evening

We got dressed and went out to the garden to take some photos just in time for golden hour and then ended the night with quesadillas and a binge sesh of The Traitors on Peacock.

DAY 3: Javier Senosiain Museam, head to the CDMX, exploring mexico city

MORNING

Javier Senosiain is the architect who designed the property that we were staying at but he also has other properties in a number of places. One of the units in the snake house is dedicated to prototypes of all of the other properties that he has created housed in incubator looking displays. This was so amazing to see and after seeing all of the prototypes, we watched a short film which showcased many of the properties.

Afternoon

After a few restful days at the snake house, we were ready for the hustle and bustle of the city. We made our way to our airbnb which was in the most ideal location, threw our stuff down and strolled to lunch at Mendl. We all got the lox bagel sandwich and it was delicious.

After lunch, we wondered around Hipodromo and then made our way to Polanco for some shopping.

WHAT I Wore

Evening

We were in the mood for sushi so we decided to try out Umai and this was the most delicious sushi I’ve ever had. I highly recommend the toro nigiri! We ended the night at a speakeasy located inside of Polpo in Roma Norte with some drinks and a great DJ.

Day 4: Eating our way through Mexico city

Morning

We started the day walking to Constela in Roma Norte. The food was delicious but I would advise against the coffee and matcha drinks. Sadly, there are very few places in CDMX that do vanilla sweetener, or even sweetener in general so unless you are a fan of simple coffee orders, I would save your coins.

After breakfast we leisurely strolled the streets stopping in stores along the way. My favorite stop on the stroll was Cafebreria El Pendulo Roma which was a stunning book shop with a cafe inside.

WHAT I Wore

Afternoon

For lunch we tried out Lardo in Condesa and the vibes were immaculate. The food was perfect and the company was even better.

After lunch, we made our way back to Polpo to do a bit more shopping, lounging, and people watching.

Evening

We had seen so many great reviews about Paramo in Roma Norte so we put our name on the wait list and perused the rooms of the vintage store next door. This was my favorite meal of the trip. The ceviche was the freshest tuna I’ve tasted in a while which was shocking because Mexico City isn’t even coastal.

Regardless, the food was amazing, we all got the tacos and raved about them for days after.

We ended the night with carajillos at Cafe de Nadie and headed home to pack up and get ready to go home the next day.

Day 5: Panadería Rosetta, exploring Roma norte, heading home

Morning

While i stayed back to pack my bags, Lauren and Reyna headed to Panadería Rosetta to pick up some pastries for us and they definitely stood up to the hype. We tried the guava pastry, cinnamon roll, cornbread, croissant, and a few others but my favorite was the cinnamon roll.

Afternoon

We checked out of our Airbnb, dropped our luggage at a friends house, and continued on to find a place to work from for the day since our flight wasn’t until 11 pm. We ate lunch at tr3s and were able to pull out our laptops to work for a few hours.

In hindsight, I’d just pay more to have a better flight time because I struggled to stay awake this entire day.

Evening

We made our way to the airport and watched a few more episodes of The Traitor while we waited for our flight to board.

What a trip. I have come out of it with a deep love for the city and cant wait to return and experience more of it. If you’ve made it this far, you may be seriously considering going, so I feel obligated to share the minor cons.

The elevation in CDMX is 1.5 miles, making the air pretty thin. We stayed on the fourth floor with no elevator and once we made it to the top, we were all out of breath.

Another con is if you experience allergies, come prepared. I didn’t think about this and eventually had to make a stop at the pharmacy for some allergy pills.

These two factors coupled with the amount of pollution in the air made it difficult to breathe normally which I was not expecting.

Overall, this was the most beautiful trip with the most beautiful friends. Reyna and Roxy are both Mexican and fluent in Spanish which helped us out in so many situations. I would recommend learning a few common phrases but would not stress over it.

If youd like to see a visual representation of our time in Mexico City, I have a vlog on my Youtube channel that you can click on below. I hope you enjoyed this post and I cant wait for you guys to see where I’m headed to next!
